It’s Now Established Gyanesh Kumar Changed Form 6 Illegally, Unilaterally: Rahul Gandhi After SC Hearing

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to pass any interim direction to restrain Gyanesh Kumar, but some of the observations made by the top court gave the Opposition further ammunition in its continued protests against the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, said that it has now been established beyond doubt that Kumar changed Form 6 “illegally and unilaterally”.

“It is now established beyond doubt that Gyanesh Kumar changed Form 6 illegally and unilaterally. This is just one more proof of him abusing his position to help the BJP. He and everyone else involved in this criminal assault on our democracy will be held accountable,” Rahul wrote on X.

In that post, the Congress MP shared the screenshot of the September 26 Election Commission of India (ECI) statement that read, “The declaration attached to Form 6 for SIR has been upheld by the Hon’ble Supreme Court. For non-SIR period, the Forms applicable as per Rules (the Registration of Electors Rules 1960) will be used.”

Rahul’s remarks came after the Supreme Court said it has not approved any modification to Form 6, which is being used by the ECI for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in various states.

Form 6 is an application through which an eligible person seeks inclusion in the electoral roll for the first time.

Rahul’s sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also pounced on the ECI.

“It’s very clear that these deletions that have taken place are against everything our constitution and our election process stands for. We are protesting about that. I think the public has now realised that the elections have been manipulated, and we will continue our protest.”
