IWL: Odisha FC Suffer Second Successive Home Defeat At Kalinga Stadium

Bhubaneswar: Odisha FC women suffered their second successive 1-3 defeat at home in the Indian Women’s League (IWL).

Following their defeat by an identical margin against East Bengal last week, Odisha FC went down to Gokulam Kerala FC on Saturday at the Kalinga Stadium.

Both teams failed to capitalise on their early chances. Odisha suffered a setback as goalkeeper Shreya Hooda, who effected a brilliant save, got injured and had to be replaced by Anshika in the 26th minute.

Anshika pulled off a great save soon after coming in, but couldn’t deny Gokulam the lead as Pyari deflected the ball into her own net in the 32nd minute.

Gokulam doubled their lead in the 43rd minute through Fazila.

Down 0-2 at half-time, Odisha FC upped the ante after change of ends. Neha scored a spectacular long-range goal in the 50th minute.

Odisha came close to an equaliser, but Pyari’s attempt, off a Jennifer pass, was blocked by the Gokulam goalkeeper.

Gokulam made it 3-1 in the 59th minute, as Fazila scored her second goal.

Odisha FC, who are all but out of the title race, remained on 11 points from 8 matches.

Odisha FC will face local rivals Nita FA at Capital Football Arena on March 21.
