Bhubaneswar: Odisha FC women went down 1-3 to East Bengal in their Indian Women’s League (IWL) clash at Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday.
It was Odisha FC’s second defeat in three home games this season, keeping them in third place with 11 points from seven matches.
Odisha FC began aggressively and created a number of goal-scoring opportunities. But by the time they found the target in the 74th minute, through Jennifer Kankam Yeboah, East Bengal had virtually sealed the deal by taking a 3-0 lead.
In the very opening minute, Eliane’s through ball found Lynda via Neha in front of goal, but her attempt went over the bar. A few minutes later, Pyari’s header off Neha’s cross was off target.
East Bengal struck in the 7th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse by Odisha.
East Bengal doubled their lead in the 31st minute, and scored one more five minutes later by converting a penalty.
Crossing over with a three-goal deficit, Odisha FC didn’t relent. The Kalinga Warriors finally got on the scoresheet in the 74th minute.
But it was too little too late.
Odisha FC next face Gokulam Kerala FC on March 15, on home turf.
