Puri: The Jagannath Temple here will remain closed for the devotees for four hours on Wednesday for the Banakalagi rituals of the Lords.
Sources said the temple will remain closed to perform the rituals, which are held secretly, from 4 pm to 8 pm. The deities are decorated with different colours to restore their original look as part of the rituals.
The ‘Banakalagi’ is generally performed by the Dutta Mohapatra Sevakas. Different types of natural colours like Hingula, Haritala, Kasturi, Keshar, glue of Kaintha are used to prepare Banaka, which is used to decorate the sibling deities.
