Puri: Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s pilgrim town of Puri will remain out of bounds for devotees for four hours on Thursday for the Banakalagi (facial) Niti of the sibling deities, the temple authorities informed on Wednesday.
According to the Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration (SJTA), the ritual will be performed by Dutta Mohapatra servitors between 5 pm tand 9 pm.
During the Banakalagi Niti, servitors will do ‘Srimukha Sringara’ of deities and apply fresh coat of colours prepared from hingula, haritala, kasturi, keshar and the glue of kaintha on the idols of the deities to restore their original look.
