Puri: The darshan of deities of Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri town will be closed for the devotees for performing the ritual of ‘Banaka Lagi’ for 5 hours on Wednesday.
According to a notification of Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), the Duttamohapatra servitors will be engaged in performing ‘Banaka Lagi’ which is a secret ritual. They will enter the main temple after Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra are offered midday prayer.
The servitors will be engaged in the ‘Srimukha Singar’ (decorating the Lords’ faces) as part of ‘Banka Lagi’ ritual. Since it is a secret ritual, the doors will be closed to the visitors till it is over. As a result, the devotees cannot have darshan of the sibling deities from 5 pm to 10 pm, the SJTA stated in the notice.
The ritual is performed on seventh day of dark fortnight of Shravan month in Odia calendar.
