Jaguar Launches I-Pace Electric, Mercedes Welcomes It

Mumbai: In what can be seen as banter between rivals, Mercedes-Benz India on Tuesday welcomed the launch of the Jaguar I-Pace electric SUV with a warm social media post.

The German automaker welcomed future I-Pace owners to charge their vehicles at over 100 Mercedes-Benz charging stations in India. Jaguar India thanked its rival too.

Mercedes-Benz sells an electric luxury SUV – EQC which is a direct competitor to the Jaguar.

Coming to the new launch, the Jaguar I-Pace has two electric motors, and a combined output of 394 bhp power and 696 Nm torque. It has a claimed range of 470km, nearly same as Merc’s 450+ km.

The Jaguar I-Pace has a full-length fixed glass roof, dual touchscreen infotainment system running Pivi Pro, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with connected car-tech. It has a heads-up display, leather sport seats, a 16-speaker, 825W Meridian sound system, adaptive air suspension, four-zone climate control, an ionising air purifier with PM2.5 filtration, and a digital rear-view mirror, and more.

The I-Pace does 0-100kmph in 4.8 seconds and is priced at Rs 1.06 crore (ex-showroom) in India.

Jaguar Land Rover has installed over 35 EV chargers at its retail outlets across 19 cities. The chargers are a combination of 7.4 kW AC chargers and 25 kW DC (fast) chargers and has partnered with Tata Power to install complimentary 7.4 kW chargers at customers’ homes. it takes 12.9 hours to recharge the battery.

Jaguar is giving a complimentary 5-year service package and 5 years of roadside assistance. The warranty on the battery is 8-years or 1,60,000 km.

Audi is expected to join the electric SUV competition with the e-tron later this year.
