New Delhi: Asaduddin Owaisi strongly objected to Wednesday’s anti-encroachment demolition drive in Jahangirpuri and described the action as a ‘targeted demolition’.
The AIMIM chief and four-time MP spoke of bulldozers razing down shops in front of a mosque, but not those in front of a temple.
“Legally, a new bulldozer procession has been taken out. Muslims are undergoing collective punishment, be scared of a poor’s curse. You demolished the shops in front of a mosque, but why not in front of temples? This is a targeted demolition, I condemn it,” ANI quoted Owaisi as saying.
BJP-ruled North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), which conducted the drive this morning before being asked to halt by Supreme Court, described the ant-encroachment drive as a ‘routine exercise’.
Senior advocate Dushyant Dave had filed a petition asking Supreme Court to stay the demolition drive. The court directed NDMC to stop the drive till it dhear the matter tomorrow,.
Officials continued till Supreme Court asked the order to be delivered to NDMC.
Jahangirpuri witnessed violent communal clashes on Saturday during a Hanuman Jayanti procession.
Nine policemen and three other people were injured.
