New Delhi: Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh once again alleged on Tuesday that the BJP was putting pressure on officials in charge of counting votes at the district level. Interestingly, candidates of Opposition INDIA bloc — by Congress and Samajwadi Party — are leading in those seats.
“In Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj, Bansgaon, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar seats, pressure is being exerted on district officials through phone calls to win the seats. Administrative officials should remember that the government is changing and this tampering with democracy will not be accepted,” Ramesh wrote on X.
In a remarkable outcome, INDIA group is leading in 37 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh, while NDA is ahead in 33.
Ramesh had earlier blamed Union Home Minister Amit Shah for intimidating 150 District Collectors. “This is blatant and brazen intimidation, showing how desperate the BJP is… Officers should not get under any pressure and must uphold the Constitution. They are under watch,” he wrote on X.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) had asked him to provide details of the 150 officers Shah had called.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot has also made similar allegations. “The manner in which the administration has acted under pressure in the close contest in Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha constituency raises many questions. The counting process is under doubt, and complaints are being made to the Election Commission by the candidates and the party,” he posted on X.
