Bhubaneswar: Jaseline Mohapatra received the second Siddhartha Mishra Memorial Creative Writing Award conducted among the students of Stewart School, Bhubaneswar, here on Thursday.
The Class X student got a winner’s certificate, a cheque worth Rs 10,000 and a plaque from Siddhartha’s wife Prachitara in the school assembly. Principal of the school, Rashmi Rekha Senapati, teachers and Srijat Mishra, Dweipayan Das, Srustijeeet Mishra and Tanuja Dutta of the 1987 batch were present.
Besides, five other participants, Anushree Rath, Sugyani Krishnadariu, Anangsha Banerjee, Ashutosh Mohanty and Pratiksha Puhan, received the ‘Certificate of Achievement’ and all other participants were given a ‘Certificate of Participation’.
The competition, held during the second quarter of 2019, aims to inspire and nurture the seeds of creative writing among the students of Stewart School, Bhubaneswar, from a young age.
In the first edition of the award, instituted in 2018, Anirban Nayak got the first prize.
This award is conducted by the Class of 1987 of Stewart School in
memory of their friend Siddhartha Mishra (1972-2012), who passed away
in 2012. Siddhartha was endowed with rare literary flair and was a
leading journalist of India and had reached enviable heights in his
profession at a very young age. He was Sports Editor of The New Indian
Express during the time of his demise. He had previously worked with
The Times of India and NewsX.
“The Class of 1987 believes this modest beginning will in due course
become an institution in itself and shall contribute towards inspiring
more and more students to take up creative writing, not just in
Stewart School, Bhubaneswar, but in other schools as well,” Srijat
said.
