Khurda: The district administration stopped a Jatra (open theatre) troupe staging a show midway at Begunia for violating the COVID-19 regulations on Saturday night.
According to sources, the Jatra troupe ‘Rang Mahal’ was performing at the place without taking permission from the district administration for the second night.
More than 2,000 viewers were present at the first night, the sources said. As per the COVID-19 guidelines, more than 200 people cannot congregate at one place.
After getting a complaint, Begunia Tehsildar and IIC reached the spot and ordered the troupe management to stop the ongoing performance.
It may be noted that the state government has clamped a ban on performance of Jatra in view of the pandemic for almost a year. The artistes and the workers of Jatra troupes, who have been deprived of their livelihood, have appealed to the government to allow them to stage the shows amid restrictions.
