Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government is in the process of acquiring the Veda Nilayam residence owned by late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and convert it into a memorial.
The acquisition process will involve the shifting of her properties to the ownership of the Puratchi Thalavi Dr J Jayalalithaa Memorial Foundation headed by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami
The state government has already deposited Rs 67.9 crore in a civil court in Chennai regarding the acquisition. Of this amount, Rs 36.9 crore would be paid towards I-T and wealth tax arrears and the remaining money may go to Jayalalithaa’s legal heirs.
