Patna: In a serious allegation against the ruling alliance in Bihar, former chief minister and RJD leader Rabri Devi said on Friday that the JD(U) and BJP were conspiring to kill her son Tejashwi Yadav ahead of the Assembly polls.
To back her claim, the homemaker-turned-politician told PTI Videos that attempts have been made on the life of former deputy CM Tejashwi “at least two, three or four times”.
Asked about incidents inside the assembly on Thursday, where some members from the ruling side had charged at Tejashwi, Leader of the Opposition in the lower house, Rabri said there is an attempt to “murder” his son.
“So many killings are taking place in Bihar, let there be one more. Who else, but the JD(U)-BJP is involved in this conspiracy. They want him bumped off so that he is not around to challenge them in the elections,” Rabri said, referring to Assembly polls which are due in October-November this year.
“There have been attempts on Tejashwi’s life in the past, for about two, three or four times. Once a truck had tried to run over his vehicle,” alleged Rabri.
Rabri, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, had turned up at the House on the last day of Monsoon session to put the government on the mat.
She and other Opposition MLCs staged a demonstration at the gate of Vidhan Parishad, raising slogans against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the conduct of NDA leaders in the Assembly on Thursday.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar, who had taken exception to Opposition legislators turning up in black clothes as a mark of protest against the SIR exercise, had shouted inside the House calling Tejashwi a ‘child’.
“Nitish Kumar seems to be provoked by black clothes just like a bull begins to charge upon seeing red colour. What wrong did we do inside the House? The proceedings have been recorded. School children were sitting in the viewers’ gallery. I dare the government to prove any misconduct on our part,” said Rabri.
Politically motivated, says BJP
State BJP chief Dilip Kumar Jaiswal dismissed Rabri’s allegations of a plot to kill Tejsahwi as baseless and politically motivated, accusing RJD of fabricating a narrative to garner public sympathy ahead of the elections.
“Tejashwi Yadav has Y-category security. And if there is any real threat, the government shall review and enhance the security cover,” Jaiswal stated.
