Paradip: A Junior Engineer (JE) of Military Engineer Services (MES) was arrested by the CBI from Paradip for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a contractor on Wednesday.
The accused has been identified as Rajiv Ranjan Reddy.
According to sources, Ranjan had demanded the amount from Pabitra Mohan Parida, a private contractor with MES in Paradip, for forwarding biodata of six employees of the firm to the Office of GE(I), MES, Bhubaneswar, for formal approval relating to the work order.
On the basis of a complaint lodged by Parida, CBI laid a trap and caught Reddy red-handed at his office while accepting the graft money.
Following his arrest, searches were conducted at the office and residence of the accused and incriminating documents were recovered, the sources added.
