New Delhi: A man wearing a PPE kit, entered a jewellery shop in South Delhi’s Kalkaji and stole gold worth Rs 13 crore. The burglary was caught on CCTV footage and police arrested the thief within 24 hours, India Today reported.
Apart from all the gold items, the police also recovered Rs 23,000 cash from the 25-year-old accused, Sheikh Nur Rahaman from Hooghly in West Bengal.
Police suspect that he entered through the fibre roof sheet of the third-floor storeroom and then into the main shop. The lock on the iron gate on the third floor was also found broken.
One of the employees who worked as an electrician in the jewellery shop above who had gone on leave on January 10 was suspected to be behind the burglary. He was later found in Karol Bagh along with all the stolen jewellery, the report added.
He took leave on January 10 and did a recce of the adjoining buildings. He identified one of the buildings with vacant/abandoned flats and prepared a list of the articles/equipment which he may require to enter the house.
Delhi Police recovered the jewellery articles worth several crores and cash along with pressure iron cutter, screwdriver, torch, rope and the PPE kit he wore during the burglary, the report added.
The accused has been working at the Kalkaji shop as an electrician for the past one year.
