Jajpur: Police have released photographs of 3 persons who were allegedly involved in the loot of ornaments worth Rs 12 crore from a jewellery showroom in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
According to sources, the police found the CCTV footage of the incident from hard disk of a computer in the shop though the looters had taken away hard disk of the CCTV camera before leaving with around 17 kg of gold and diamond ornaments.
While the police suspected that 7 armed dacoits had looted the showroom ay Vyasanagar in Jajpur town, they have managed to retrieve the images of 3 persons involved in the incident. The police have also released the phone numbers to inform about the looters and announced monetary reward for the information about them.
In the daytime heist on Monday afternoon, 7 robbers wielding guns came to the Senco Gold and Diamonds showroom posing as customers at around 1.30 pm. They snatched the weapon of the security guard at the entrance and took him inside.
They held all the staff, security guard and two customers present in the showroom hostage at gunpoint and snatched their mobile phones. Some staff, who tried to resist the miscreants, were brutally assaulted.
The looters then collected all the ornaments in the showroom and put those in bags before fleeing the spot in motorcycles. The miscreants wore masks on their faces and were speaking Hindi and Odia, said one of the customers of the showroom.
A special team of police led by Jajpur SP has been formed for investigation into the heist while other teams have gone outside the state to trace the looters, the sources said.
