Balasore: In a daylight theft, miscreants looted gold ornaments and cash from a jewellery shop in Odisha’s Balasore district on Wednesday.
According to sources, the owner Malati Jewellers, located at Kamarda Bazar under Jaleswar block in the district went to fetch water after opening the shop in the morning.
When he returned to the shop with water, his bag containing 300 grams of gold ornaments and cash was missing. He had reportedly brought the bag from his home and kept in the shop before going out to fetch water like everyday.
When he did not find the bag, he was shocked. Initially he thought someone might have played mischief. However, after locals and nearby shop-owners refused to have seen the bag, he realised of being looted. The total loss would be more than Rs five lakh, the shop-owner said. He immediately filed a complaint with Kamarda police.
Police said, it is suspected that someone might have watched the jeweller’s regular movements and managed to flee with the bag, when he went out to fetch water. They have initiated a probe into the incident and were verifying the CCTV footages to nab the culprit, police added.
