Baripada: The sister of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met the grieving family of Jharaphula Nayak, a Plus III student of Rama Devi Women’s University, at her native Marundeipasi village in Mayurbhanj district on Monday.
Sources said Anjani Soren, who is the president of the women’s wing of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), arrived at the village in the afternoon and condoled the death of Jharaphula.
Later, Anjani told the media that Odisha Police should expedite the investigation and take stern action against the accused.
She also alleged that though the ruling BJD in Odisha reiterates respect for women, the fact is that the women in the state are not safe.
Former JMM MLA Prahllad Purty accompanied Anjani during her visit. Purty demanded a high-level probe and a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the bereaved family.
