Jharkhand Girl Rescued In Critical Condition In Bhubaneswar After Being Raped

Bhubaneswar: A girl aged around 16 years was rescued in a critical condition with multiple injuries in Bhubaneswar after she was allegedly raped.

The girl has been admitted to Capital Hospital in a critical condition after she was found writhing in pain on the roadside in Ashok Nagar area of the city late on Thursday night. Preliminary investigation showed that the girl is from Jharkhand. However, her identity is yet to be confirmed.

Police said the address revealed by her is under verification with the help of Jharkhand Police. ⁠As per the medico legal case (MLC) received from the Capital Hospital, her age is around 16 years. She does not have any attendant with her or any mobile phone with her.

Twin City Commissioner of Police S Dev Datta Singh said that the girl was rescued in a critical condition from the roadside under the jurisdiction of Capital police station. The police have filed a medico legal case (MLC) and the girl is receiving treatment. He said that the survivor is yet to provide any information about the perpetrators.

The police registered a case on their own after receiving information from the Capital Hospital regarding the incident, he said.

The MLC was received from Capital hospital on October 16 at around 8, mentioning “psychic disorder” and history of sexual assault. ⁠On the basis of the MLC, the Inspector In-charge (IIC) of Capital Police Station on his own registered an FIR under sexual assault sections of BNS.

As per locals, the girl was found lying on the streets. Some autorickshaw drivers spotted her squirming in pain and rushed to her rescue. They immediately shifted her to Capital Hospital after informing the police. Sources said the girl was unable to speak and was in traumatic condition. Hospital authorities said the girl was brutally assaulted.

Though the girl could not speak properly, she informed the doctors that she hailed from Bihar.
On being informed, a team from Capital Police Station reached the hospital. A case under POCSO was registered. No family member had turned up at the hospital or the police station till reports last came in.

Police said CCTV footage is being scanned in the area where the girl was found and efforts are on to identify and nab the perpetrators at the earliest.
