Ranchi: In a bizarre incident, a man climbed a nearly 100-foot-high mobile tower near the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in the early hours of Sunday, demanding that chief minister Hemant Soren address his grievances, officials said.
The man, identified as 25-year-old Heeralal from Sikni village in Latehar district, was safely rescued by police after around seven hours., reported PTI.
“We safely rescued the man after counselling him and assured him that his demands will be looked into. He climbed the tower around 12.30 am and was rescued around 7.30 am,” Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Sanoj Choudhary said.
So what did Heeralal want from the chief minister?
In a purported video of the incident that has gone viral on social media, Heeralal can be seen saying that the CM should come and solve his problem. How can Soren not address his problems after he, his family and villagers had voted for him, he asks. If the CM does not come, he will not come down, Heeralal goes on to say.
PTI could not independently verify the video’s authenticity.
The issue is under police investigation, so it’s still not fully clear why Heeralal climbed the tower.
But one theory is that the man was upset after his wife went to her parents’ house.
The other issue is that hundreds of students from different parts of Jharkhand have been staying at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, demanding an impartial probe into alleged irregularities in the JPSC, JSSC and other recruitment examinations in the state.
According to some locals, Heeralal scaled the tower to protest irregularities in recruitment examinations that prevented his wife from getting a job.
Whether his climbing the tower has got anything to do with it will be known after the probe is completed.
