Jharsuguda Airport Back In Business With SpiceJet Today

Jharsuguda: SpiceJet will from Sunday start regular flights from the newly-built Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda, where operations had been suspended for over five months.

The flight is part of Government of India’s Regional Connectivity Scheme ‘UDAN’.

SpiceJet will deploy the 198-seater Boeing 737-800 on the Jharsuguda-Delhi-Jharsuguda sector and the 78-seater Bombardier Q400 on the two other UDAN sectors of Jharsuguda-Hyderabad-Jharsuguda and Jharsuguda-Kolkata-Jharsuguda.

According to the schedule, the airline will have three flights from VSS Airport. The first flight will leave for New Delhi at 3.40pm, the second to Hyderabad at 4.10pm and the third to Kolkata at 8.40pm.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Jharsuguda airport on September 22. Air Odisha started flights but suspended operations in arounf 15 days citing losses.

VSS airport in Jharsuguda is the second largest in Odisha and the only one after Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar that can handle civil and commercial operations.
