Bhubaneswar: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday granted the 4C licence to Jharsuguda Airport.
It is the second functional airport in Odisha after Biju Patnik International Airport in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, the Jharsugada airport has secured 4C licence making it eligible for landing and take-off of bigger aircraft like the A-320 airbus.
The airport had already got category 2B licence in May this year, qualifying it for flight operations.
Recently, the DGCA team, led by Mumbai-based Deputy Director S Saxena and a team of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), had conducted separate inspections of ancillary facilities and security measures at the airport.
The airport is also equipped with an ATS tower, a runway of the required length and electrification, emergency health and other associated facilities.
The airport has been built on an area of 909.22 acres at a cost of Rs 175 crore of which the state government has chipped in with Rs 50 crore.
It is capable of handling A320 Airbus with a maximum capacity of 180 passengers.
