Jharsuguda: The newly-constructed Jharsuguda airport is likely to be inaugurated on August 21, informed airport director S K Chouhan on Tuesday.
“The Ministry of Civil Aviation informed us about inauguration of the airport over a call. we are yet to receive an official letter in this regard,” said Chauhan.
The airport will be inaugurated on August 21, but flight operations will commence only after receiving directions regarding the same from the Ministry, he added.
The airport has been constructed over an area of 909.22 acres at a cost of Rs 175 crore, of which the Odisha government has spent Rs 50 crore. It would host A320 Airbus with a maximum capacity of 180 passengers.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had on May 5 granted licence to Jharsuguda airport to make it the second operational airport in Odisha after the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar.
