Jharsuguda: Congress candidate Tarun Pandey on Saturday filed his nonimation for Jharsuguda Assembly by-election in Odisha scheduled on May 10.
Accompanied by a number of senior Congress leaders, Pandey took out an impressive procession and filed the nomination papers at the office of Jharsuguda deputy collector.
Tarun was accompanied by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak, party MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati and Bijay Patnaik.
Claiming that Congress enjoys overwhelming support of people in the constituency, the PCC chief said the residents of the area are fed up with the ruling BJD as they are facing growing unemployment and acute drinking water problem.
Hopeful of getting support from the voters, Tarun said he will raise issues such as pollution, drinking wate scarcity and unemployment problems faced by locals.
Tarun is the son of former Jharsuguda MLA Biren Pandey, who passed away last month. The former MLA was elected to the Odisha Assembly thrice on a Congress ticket in 1980, 1985 and 1995.
While the ruling BJD has fielded Deepali Das, daughter of slain Minister Naha Kishore Das, whose assassination has necessitated the bypoll, BJP has nominated youth leader Tankadhar Tripathy.
The nomination process for the bypoll, which began on April 13, is slated to end on April 20.
