Jharsuguda: There have been several complaints of police brutality against common people, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown.
In a bid to revive the image of cops, Jharsuguda Police have come up with an innovative plan — ‘Phone Re SP’ — to listen to people’s grievances. Common people can now call the Jharsuguda SP’s direct landline number to register any grievance, between 10.30 am and 11.30 am. The facility will be available from Monday.
“People can contact me on the land phone number every Monday and discuss their grievances related to the functioning of police, like if they are not accepting complaints, investigation of cases is slow, and other issues,” Jharsuguda SP Rahul PR said.
All this while, SPs and Collectors were hearing people’s grievances in different blocks every Monday during office hours. However, people from rural areas and containment zones were finding it difficult to reach the SP or SDPO offices owing to unavailability of public transport. Also, the elderly people were apprehensive of going to these offices amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hence that arrangement has been suspended, keeping people’s interest and safety in mind. Henceforth, there will be no large gatherings in these offices.
