Jharsuguda Records 39°C By 11.30AM As Heatwave Returns To Odisha; Temp May Rise Further

Bhubaneswar: With return of searing heat to Odisha, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur recorded 39°C and 38°C respectively by 11.30 am on Friday.

The heatwave under the influence of dry and warm northerly and north-westerly winds may continue to prevail for the next two days with yellow warning issued for one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir and Kalahandi on Saturday (March 29) and Sunday (March 30).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also forecast a rise in the day and night temperatures across the state by 2-3°C during the next 24 hours. Dry weather conditions are likely to prevail on March 31 and April 1, followed by light rain or thundershowers at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada on April 2 and April 3.

On Thursday, Jharsuguda was the hottest at 41.4°C, followed closely by Sambalpur and Hirakud at 40°C and 40.1°C, respectively. The temperature in state capital Bhubaneswar also shot up to 38.5°C.

Notably, dense fog was observed at Bhubaneswar airport with the lowest visibility of 50 metres this morning. The day temperature in the city is likely to touch 39°C by late afternoon, according to the weather agency.
