Reliance Jio is testing the market ahead of a full-scale rollout. In order to get more subscribers, the company is introducing a lower cost plan to cut the entry barrier, sources said. The new plan has a Rs 2,500 deposit instead of the current Rs 4,500.
The plan will have limited features, such as a single band WiFi router, speeds of 50Mbps instead of 100Mbps, and it will be based on a simpler Optical Network Terminal.
The low-cost plan will provide 1100 GB data per month with free voice calls and full TV access via JioTV.
Jio has not officially confirmed the plan. It is estimated that the plan will also have a lower monthly charge, possibly below Rs 600.
