Bhubaneswar: Continuing its immense popularity as the most preferred mobile service provider in Odisha, Reliance Jio added 6.14 lakh new subscribers in the state in October 2019, as per the latest telecom subscriber data released by TRAI on Monday.
The significant 5.5% growth in Jio subscribers in the state in October is the highest for Jio amongst all telecom circles in the same period, revealed the subscriber data released by TRAI. With this, Reliance Jio subscriber base leaped to over 1.16 crore in Odisha as on October 2019, achieving 34.9% market share in mobile subscriber base in the state. The rapid and continuous rise in the number of Jio subscribers in the state has been fuelled by its all 4G network, fast expansion of its 4G network coverage in the hitherto unconnected hinterlands and the hugely popular affordable ‘JioPhone – India ka Smartphone’ among the rural as well as semi-urban population.
The hugely popular JioPhone Diwali offer 2019 launched in October, wherein the popular 4G LTE phone was available at just Rs. 699/, seems to have also contributed to the massive growth in Jio subscribers in the month.
As per the subscriber data released by TRAI, BSNL was the only other operator in Odisha to have added new subscribers in the month with net addition of 59,000 subscribers while both Airtel and Vodafone Idea continued their trend of losing subscribers in thousands in the month. Vodafone Idea lost 95000 subscribers followed by Airtel which lost over 13000 subscribers during the same period in the state. However, with Reliance Jio adding massive 6.14 lakh new subscribers in the month, the overall mobile subscribers count in the state increased by 5.68 lakh to reach 3.34 crores as on October 31, 2019, revealed the TRAI report.
Nationally also, Jio continued to add the highest number of new subscribers by adding over 91 lakh new subscribers in October, taking its total subscriber base to over 36.4 crores in the country.
It is worth mentioning here that according to the latest financial report on the sector released by TRAI for the July-September 2019 quarter, Reliance Jio has consolidated its revenue leadership position in the telecom and digital services segment in Odisha, achieving over 48.1% market share in gross revenue and over 56.8% market share in terms of adjusted gross revenue (AGR).
