New Delhi: Reliance Industries Limited’s Jio will begin rolling out 5G services for its subscribers by Diwali, announced RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani at the company’s 45th annual general meeting on Monday.
“Within the next two months, that is by Diwali of 2022, we will launch Jio 5G across multiple key cities including the metro cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. Subsequently, we plan to increase the 5G footprint month after month, until by December of 2023, which is less than 18 months from today, to deliver Jio 5G to every town, to every taluka, and every tehsil of our country,” said Ambani.
The company has committed 2 trillion rupees ($25 billion) to roll out the 5G services.
Earlier this month, Jio emerged as the biggest spender in India’s $19 billion 5G spectrum auction, winning airwaves worth $11 billion.
Adding to it, Meta and Jio Platforms on Monday announced the launch of the first-ever end-to-end shopping experience on WhatsApp, where consumers can shop from JioMart right within their WhatsApp chat.
Consumers can begin shopping on JioMart via WhatsApp by simply sending ‘Hi’ to the JioMart number on +917977079770.
“Excited to launch our partnership with JioMart in India. This is our first-ever end-to-end shopping experience on WhatsApp — people can now buy groceries from JioMart right in a chat. Business messaging is an area with real momentum and chat-based experiences like this will be the go-to way people and businesses communicate in the years to come,” Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO, Meta, said in a Facebook post.
Ambani said in a press statement, “Our vision is to propel India as the world’s leading digital society. When Jio Platforms and Meta announced our partnership in 2020, Mark and I shared a vision of bringing more people and businesses online and creating truly innovative solutions that will add convenience to the daily lives of every Indian. One example of an innovative customer experience that we are proud of developing is the first ever end-to-end shopping experience with JioMart on WhatsApp. The JioMart on WhatsApp experience furthers our commitment of enabling a simple and convenient way of online shopping to millions of Indians.”
