Srinagar: Five terrorists from Jammu and Kashmir, who are now based in Pakistan, are set to lose their lands.
Nalin Prabhat, the director general of police, Jammu and Kashmir, has ordered the attachment of Jammu land parcels belonging to the five, as reported by The Telegraph Online.
This is being seen as a move to crack down on home bred terrorists linked to Pakistan-based outfits.
Proclamation proceedings against Mohammad Wasim, an alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative from Rajouri have already been secured by the police. His property was attached in March.
The attachment proceedings under Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) against Qasim were part of the drive to dismantle the terror ecosystem, a police spokesperson said.
Qasim has been named in an FIR registered under the UAPA, Arms Act and the Explosive Substances Act at the Mahore police station in 2024, the spokesperson added.
The five suspected terrorists whose land, totalling around 4.5 acres, will be attached are Alaf Din, Ghulam Mohammad, Mohammad Ashraf and Shabir Ahmad from Mahore and Bhar Din from Sildhar in the Reasi district of Jammu, the police said in an order uploaded on X.
The investigation, based on recorded statements of witnesses, found that the five had exfiltrated to Pakistan some years ago for arms training and were now actively involved in reviving terrorist activities in the area from across the border, the police said.
Evidence collected during the investigations had revealed that “these terrorists are attempting to sell their land and proceeds of such sale are intended to be used for furtherance of terrorist activities in the area”, the order said.
However, It is not known whether the land parcels were registered in the names of the five or their families. In the past, authorities have been accused of attaching properties belonging to relatives of suspected terrorists.
As many as 30 terrorists have been named in the order. They reportedly exfiltrated from areas falling under the Mahore and Chassana police stations, where they were active between 1991 and 2003. They allegedly exfiltrated to obtain arms, ammunition and training for waging war against India and to disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir, the police said.
“These persons are now working for the LeT in Pakistan and are supplying arms/ammunition, money etc to promote terrorism in J&K, besides instigating, radicalising the youth for taking part in terror activities in the area,” the order says.
