Dhenkanal: The famous Mahima Mela, also known as Joranda Mela, in the district will be organised amid COVID-19 restrictions from February 25 to 27.
According to a letter issued by the district administration, only the sadhus (saints) from within the district will be allowed to take part in the event. General public and saints from outside are barred from participation due to COVID-19 restrictions, the letter said.
The Joranda Mela, one of the famous fairs of Odisha that is held annually on the full moon day of Magha month of Hindu calendar. A huge number of Mahima Sanyasis (ascetics), devotees, monks, and pilgrims take part in Joranda Mela to worship Mahima Gosain’s Samadhi Pitha (shrine) in Sunya Mandir (temple) built in the early 20th century.
