Washington: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ‘approved’ an operation in Istanbul, Turkey, to capture or kill Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018, said a declassified US intelligence assessment released on Friday by President Joe Biden’s administration.
Khashoggi wrote opinion columns for the Washington Post critical of the crown prince’s policies.
He was lured to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018, then killed and dismembered by a team of operatives linked to the crown prince, the report added.
Riyadh had denied any involvement of the crown prince in the murder.
