Sonbhadra (UP): A journalist and his wife were brutally beaten to death in Sonbhadra district’s Barwadih village, according to police. The journalist used to work for a Hindi daily as a correspondent.
Victim Uday Paswan died on the spot while wife, Sheetla, succumbed to injuries at a Varanasi hospital on Tuesday. The incident is an outcome of an old enmity with a former village head, according to news agency IANS.
The victim had approached the Kone police for security in the wake of threat to him and his family but no action was taken. Three police personnel have been suspended for dereliction of duty.
“Inspector Kone police station, a sub-inspector and a constable have been suspended in this connection. Five of six accused persons have also been arrested while the main accused, Keval Paswan, who is also a former village head, is absconding,” Superintendent of Police Sonbhadra Ashish Srivastava was quoted as saying by IANS on Wednesday.
