Baripada: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday apprehended a Junior Revenue Assistant in the office of the Tehsildar in Mayurbhanj district while allegedly accepting a Rs 40,000 bribe.
According to official sources, the accused, identified as Bhargab Mahakud, was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount at his office from a complainant for processing a file in a mutation case for issuance of a Record of Rights (Patta) in his favour.
A case has been registered by Berhampur Vigilance under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, against him. Besides, searches are on at two locations of Mahakud from a disproportionate assets angle.
