New Delhi: Former Congress leader and industrialist Naveen Jindal joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday evening.
Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel and Power (JSP), joined the saffron party at its headquarters here in the presence of general secretary Vinod Tawde.
A few hours later, Jindal was named as a candidate from Kurukshetra in BJP’s fifth list for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Jindal said he wants to contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s agenda of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Tawde stated that Jindal’s joining the party will help the government’s agenda of boosting India’s economy and prosperity.
“I represented Congress Party in Parliament as MP from Kurukshetra for 10 years. I thank the Congress leadership and the then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Today I am resigning from the primary membership of the Congress Party,” Jindal posted on X shortly before joining the BJP.
The 54-year-old Jindal, who was a two-time Lok Sabha MP from Kurukshetra (2004 to 2014), later tweeted that he had joined BJP under PM Modi’s leadership, and Amit Shah and JP Nadda’s guidance.
