Barbil: Four youngsters from Barbil did Odisha proud by bagging 2 gold, one silver and one bronze medals in the 21st National Junior Wushu Championship held at Kerala’s Kozhikode from September 1 to 6.
Babulu Munda and Rajesh Munda bagged gold in 48 kg junior category, while Prem Munda and Rajkumar Munda won silver and bronze, respectively, in 45 kg junior category.
They received all-round support from JSP Foundation, the social arm of Jindal Steel & Power which has been supporting and encouraging youths of Keonjhar district to pursue play Wushu — a form of martial art.
JSP Foundation, in association with Odisha State Wushu Association, has been backing the Keonjhar district Wushu team for 11 years. The Foundation provides infrastructural support like development of training centres, training facility by national level coaches, food and nutrition, clothing and conveyance for the players.
Babulu and Manju Munda earlier won medals in international Wushu tournaments in Brazil, Brunei and Moscow.
“Such successes build confidence of our youths in the tribal-predominant region to perform better and overcome stigmas in life. My heartiest congratulations to all the medallists and good wishes for their future endeavours.
