New Delhi: Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) aims at enhancing the capacity of its plant at Angul in Odisha from 6 MTPA to 25.2 MTPA through clean energy resources with an additional investment of Rs 1.20 lakh crore by 2030.
Releasing its Vision 2030, the JSPL stated that it would make its Angul steel plant the world’s largest and greenest single-location steel plant, thus putting Odisha on the global steel map.
The company has prepared its vision document in keeping with its commitment to Prime Minister’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat Mission, and inspired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s vision to make Odisha a 100-MT steel manufacturing hub and the late visionary Biju Babu’s dream to make the state a leader in steel, according to a release.
Angul plant will see an expansion of substantial green steel manufacturing capacity through hydrogen-based DRI and EAF route. The complex will also house a 12.5 MTPA cement plant to utilise the blast furnace slag and fly ash to produce environment-friendly green cement.
The company plans to invest in a state-of-the-art port and a dedicated railway line to connect the port, the Angul facility, the Barbil pellet plant and its Raigarh plant in Chhattisgarh. It expects to create more than 60,000 direct job opportunities and around 3,00,000 indirect employment opportunities in the state.
The company’s operations in Odisha are likely to generate economic activity to the tune of nearly Rs 1.5 Lakh crore annually, with the state exchequer getting richer by potential revenues of around Rs 7500 crore per annum, the release added.
