Barbil: As a part of its community welfare programme, the JSW Foundation awarded ‘Udaan Fellowship’ to 104 meritorious students of Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts in Odisha to encourage them to pursue higher studies.
The fellowships were handed over to the students by Padma awardee and social activist Tulasi Munda during a programme held at Jajag office on Wednesday. Congratulating the students, she said that the scholarship programme is a catalyst for the students to continue their studies sincerely and contribute to the society in a positive manner.
According to a press release, Rs 26 lakh were disbursed to the students, who come under the Direct Impact Zone (DIZ) of the mines of JSW group. The students were selected through the criteria of having scored minimum 50% marks in the annual examination conducted by their respective academic institutions. They are provided scholarships across the courses.
It is also renewed every year and around 22 students received the renewal amount this year.
JSW Foundation has collaborated with National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) to ensure transparency and scrutiny in deposition of the fellowship, it added.
A foundation official said that the scholarships will boost the confidence of the students to set higher goals and persevere to achieve them.
