Barbil: Over 150 patients were screened for eye ailments during the first free eye screening camp, organised by JSW Foundation at Nuagaon dispensary premises, in Keonjhar district on December 7.
Implemented by Vision Spring, it was the first of many mega free eye screening camps to be conducted by JSW Foundation for the benefit of local villagers.
Patients availed free eye check-up by specialists and were also given spectacles. Glasses for those who need vision correction will be custom-made and home delivered in 15 days.
A few patients with serious eye ailments were also identified.
Most of the patients are from below poverty line and weaker sections of the society, who are unable to avail proper eye treatment.
JSW Foundation’s free eye screening camps will be conducted over three months covering its 56 direct impact zone (DIZ) villages.
Officials said the target is to provide free screening and vision correction service to 20,000 people, including children and senior citizens.
JSW Foundation recently provided similar services to 10,000 people in Paradip, and is simultaneously conducting 10,000 eye screenings in Jharsuguda and 5000 screenings in Kutra area of Sundargarh as well.
