JSW Project: Protesting Villagers Return To Discussion Table In Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur: In a major shift in the villagers’ clash with police against demolition of betel vines for the proposed steel plant project of JSW in Dhinkia village in the district, the villagers held a meeting with District Magistrate Parul Patwari and SP Akhileshwar Singh amid cordial atmosphere on Sunday.

The meeting was held between the locals and the district magistrate and the SP at the Dhinkia panchayat office in the afternoon. The villagers made no demands as the election code of conduct was in place.

A month ago, on the eve of Sankranti, the villagers had opposed the administration protesting against the demolition of the betel vines for the project, leading to a confrontation with the villagers. Both locals and the police were injured in the incident.

According to the district magistrate and the SP, various issues of local people will be discussed soon. The situation is returning to normal in the village, they said.
