Mumbai: Jugjugg Jiyo, the upcoming film of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, has run into another plagiarism controversy.
Pakistani singer Abrar Ul Haq has accused Johar of copying one of his songs in the film, which is due to be released in theatres on June 24.
Earlier, Vishal A Singh, a creative executive producer, accused Dharma Productions of using a script he shared in 2020 to make Jug Jug Jeeyo.
After the trailer of Jugjugg Jeeyo – featuring Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Manish Paul and Prajakta Koli — was launched on May 22, Abrar took to social media to assert that he hasn’t sold the rights to his song ‘Nach Punjaban’ to any Indian movie or filmmaker.
He wrote that “producers like Karan Johar” should not copy songs and threatened legal action, claiming that this was his sixth song to have been copied.
“I have not sold my song ‘Nach Punjaban’ to any Indian movie and reserve the rights to go to court to claim damages. Producers like @karanjohar should not use copy songs. This is my 6th song being copied which will not be allowed at all. @DharmaMovies @karanjohar,” Abrar tweeted.
“Song ‘Nach Punjaban’ has not been licensed to any one. If someone is claiming it, then produce the agreement. I will be taking legal action. #NachPunjaban,” Abrar further wrote.
Vishal Singh also tweeted his protest, claiming that he had registered the script named ‘Bunny Rani’ with Screenwriting Association in January 2020. He had mailed Dharma Productions a month later wanting to co-produce the film with them, and received a reply from the production house. But he alleged that Dharma picked his story to make Jug Jugg Jeeyo.
“Not fair, Karan Johar,” Vishal wrote.
