Dhenkanal: Forest Department Officials conducted a massive operation for four hours and rescued an elephant calf from an abandoned well in Mahulapunji forest, Dhenkanal district, in the early hours of Tuesday.
The elephant calf is believed to be six to seven years of age. Locals from Jamujhara village, under Kamakhyanagar western range in Baruan Panchayat where the incident took place, spotted the elephant in the open well and informed the forest department. The officials sprang into action and saved the distraught calf from its ordeal.
