Bhubaneswar: A day after being caught taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 in Bhubaneswar, a junior clerk in the office of the sub-registrar, Khandagiri, was arrested by Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday.
Vigilance sources said that Debajani Kar was arrested for demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 20,000/- from a complainant for execution of Registered Sale Deed (RSD) of a sub-plot.
Verification of cash over Rs.15 lakhs found during search of sub-registrar office following the trap is being done by senior departmental officer and Vigilance officers.
As per the plan, the complainant went to give the money and the Vigilance officials caught Kar red-handed while accepting it in her office room. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Kar and seized in presence of witnesses.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches were launched on the residential house of Kar at Old Town in Bhubaneswar and her office room.
The Vigilance sleuths found Rs 15,08,550 in cash during search of the Sub-Registrar Office following the trap of Kar. The office staff were being examined, and the source of huge cash verified.
Senior Officer from Inspector General of Registration (IGR) Office, Cuttack has been requisitioned to assist in verification as foul play is suspected.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance has registered a case against Kar. Further investigation is underway.
