Bhubaneswar: A Junior Engineer (JE) was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance officials for allegedly taking Rs 10,000 bribe from a contractor in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Saturday.
The accused was identified as Ashok Kumar Das, JE in Basudevpur Block of the district. He was apprehended by Vigilance while demanding and taking bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor to facilitate release of bills for works executed by him.
A Vigilance statement said that Das refused to release the bill amount unless he was paid the demanded bribe. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of the JE and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at four locations of Das from disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
A case has been registered and further investigation is in progress.
