Junior Engineer Caught With Rs 2.03 Lakh ‘Ill-Gotten Cash’ In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday caught a junior engineer with more than Rs two lakh cash, the source of which he failed to explain satisfactorily.

The junior engineer was identified as Bhimsen Maharana, posted in RF Division at Jaraka under Kuakhia Section in Jajpur district.

Based on an information about collection of huge cash as bribe from contractors, Maharana was intercepted by a team of Vigilance on NH-16 near Tangi tollgate in Cuttack while he was proceeding from his office to his native place at village Bentapurasasan in Balianta area of Khurda district in his car.

During interception, a sum of Rs 2,03,940/-, suspected ill-gotten cash, was found in his possession. As the junior engineer could not explain satisfactorily, the amount recovered from him along with his car was seized, a Vigilance press release said.

Following the interception, search is being carried out at three locations linked to Maharana from Disproportionate Assets angle.
