Cuttack: Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh was sworn in as the 34th Chief Justice of Orissa High Court on Wednesday.
Governor Raghubar Das administered the oath of office to Justice Singh at a ceremony held at the Orissa High Court here.
The Orissa High Court had been functioning without a regular chief justice since the retirement of Chief Justice Subashis Talapatra on October 3, 2023, with Justice BR Sarangi officiating as Acting Chief Justice. The Ministry of Law and Justice had notified his appointment earlier this month, giving clearance to the recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium in November 2023.
Prior to this, Justice Singh was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Patna on April 5 2012 and had been functioning there as the senior-most puisne Judge. Before his elevation as a Judge of the High Court, he was enrolled at the Bar in 1990 and practised at the High Court of Judicature at Patna. His area of practice was constitutional, service, criminal and arbitration matters. During his practice of 22 years he also served as Additional Advocate General for the State of Bihar since December 2010 till his elevation as a Judge of High Court.
