Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Harish Tandon as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court. Justice Tandon is serving as a judge in Calcutta High Court at present.
The appointment is to be made against the vacancy which arose consequent upon the retirement of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on January 19. Justice Arindam Sinha is currently serving as the acting Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
“The Collegium proposes to appoint Mr. Justice Harish Tandon, Judge, High Court at Calcutta, as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Orissa,” an official resolution said.
As per the statement, Justice Tandon has had a distinguished career, serving as a Judge of the Calcutta High Court since his appointment on April 13, 2010. With over 13 years of experience, he ranks 7th in the All-India Seniority of High Court Judges, including Chief Justices. As a senior puisne Judge in his parent High Court, he has established himself as a competent and respected figure in the judiciary.
Before his elevation to the High Court, Justice Tandon practiced law in the Calcutta High Court, specialising in civil matters. His extensive experience in dispensing justice has earned him a reputation for integrity and conduct, essential qualities for a person holding high judicial office.
