New Delhi: Justice Ranjan Gogoi has been sworn in as the Chief Justice of India(CJI). He succeeds Dipak Misra.
Justice Gogoi, 64, is the first CJI from the Northeast. He will retire from the post in November 17, 2019.
Justice Gogoi, the 46th CJI of the country, was administered the oath of office in the Rashtrapati Bhawan in presence of President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, former prime ministers Manmohan Singh and HD Deve Gowda.
