Justice (Retd) JP Das To Monitor Odisha CB Probe Into Naba Das’ Killing

Bhubaneswar: Retired Orissa High Court Judge, Justice JP Das will supervise and monitor the Crime Branch probe into the firing on Odisha Health Minister Naba Das.

He was an Orissa HC Judge from April 17, 2015, to  May 19, 2019. Prior to that, he was District & Sessions Judge, Khurda, in Bhubaneswar.

With conspiracy theories abounding and the opposition mounting a scathing attack, the state government had earlier written to HC to appoint a sitting or retired judge to monitor the investigation.

The BJP, however, has been demanding a CBI probe into the incident to ensure transparency since a policeman is the main accused in the gruesome murder of the minister.

Meanwhile, the CB has been allowed to take the lone accused in the case, Gopal Das, on four-day remand for further questioning. It is alleged that he attempted to assassinate the minister five times in the last two weeks.
