Cuttack: Justice Subhasis Talapatra was sworn in as the 33rd Chief Justice of Orissa High Court on Tuesday.
Governor Ganeshi Lal administered the oath of office to the new Chief Justice in a ceremony on the court premises in Odisha’s Cuttack city. He succeeded Justice Dr S Muralidhar, who demitted office on Monday,
Justice Talapatra will have a very brief tenure of less than two months as the Chief Justice before he retires on October 3, 2023.

He did his graduation in Arts and Law from University of Calcutta and was enrolled with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh on September 12, 1990. He practised mainly at Agartala Bench of the Gauhati High Court and was later designated as a Senior Advocate on December 21, 2004.
He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on November 15, 2011 and was appointed as a Permanent Judge of the Tripura High Court on September 13, 2013. He served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Court twice – November 2, 2018, to November 13, 2018 and November 11. 2019, to November 15, 2019.
